Why Are We here? Reflecting on Okanagan Vision Therapy’s Last 5 Years

The past 5 years for Okanagan Vision Therapy have truly been a remarkable journey for all of us here – marked by an endless string of “mini-milestones” and progression. When I spend some time reflecting on our previous years providing Vision Therapy, I can’t help but circle back upon the only question in any endeavour that truly matters – why are we doing this?

So, why are we here, and where are we going?

From Lake Country Optometry to Okanagan Vision Therapy

After initially being housed within the incredible clinic of Lake Country Optometry, the decision was made in 2015 to move to downtown Kelowna and operate as a stand-alone provider of Vision Therapy. This move provided us the opportunity to expand and continue to build on our passion and create something truly unique within our community.

The Vision

This opportunity may seem like a no-brainer, but I have to be honest and admit that this move was in many ways extremely daunting and terrifying. In fact, I distinctly recall making the calculation three weeks before opening – if no one shows up, how long can we last? The answer, if you’re wondering, was 5.3 months.

I often think of this number with each passing month and remember to be grateful for the fact that both the professional community and the community at large has embraced us and allowed us to continue to operate and grow.

So, why are we here?

The Purpose

We’re here to better the lives and futures of all those who entrust themselves to our care. It really is as simple as that. Clients per week, statistics, percentages – all of this is irrelevant and unfulfilling if you’re not committed to a central purpose that motivates you.

This isn’t a responsibility that any of us at Okanagan Vision Therapy take lightly. We are a niche provider, operating in a field that few have heard of – trust, connection, and an unwavering commitment to bettering our community is the only way for us to continue to exist.

With exciting growth and expansion on the horizon, here’s to the next 5 years being even more fulfilling than the last!

Until next month,

Paul Rollett, OD, FCOVD
