Vision Therapy Treatments

What is Vision Therapy?

Vision Therapy is a doctor-supervised program designed to improve the function of the visual system.

Whether the visual issue is developmental (children’s eye care), academic (vision-related learning difficulties), acquired (brain injury or concussion), or sports-related (sports vision training), we are fully equipped to assess, advise, and treat as needed.

We begin with a comprehensive functional eye exam to identify any underlying vision problems contributing to symptoms such as headaches, blurry vision, dizziness, and reading difficulties. Next, we create tailored treatments to significantly improve visual skills.

Functional Eye Exams

Our 75-minute functional visual evaluation examines your glasses prescription, eye tracking abilities, depth perception, and the integration between your eyes and brain. These insights inform our reports and vision therapy treatment plans.

  • Eye Tracking and Teaming Assessment
  • Ocular Alignment Testing
  • Depth Perception Evaluation
  • Hand-Eye Coordination Testing
  • Visual Perceptual Assessment

Children’s Eye Exams

Our Kelowna children’s eye exams go beyond the basics. Okanagan Vision Therapy provides kids with the eye care they need to thrive. Our Kelowna eye exams are thorough and personalized to help kids feel comfortable and engaged, encouraging them to ask questions and take an active role in their care. If your child struggles with reading or finds it hard to focus in class, an undiagnosed vision issue could be the cause. Through age-appropriate assessments, we evaluate their eye health and vision and, if needed, provide tailored solutions such as glasses or vision therapy.

Common issues include:

  • Strabismus & Amblyopia (“lazy” or crossed eyes)
  • Reading Difficulties
  • Autism and ADHD
  • Convergence Insufficiency
  • Dyslexia

Low Vision Rehabilitation

Low vision doesn’t mean blindness, but it can make daily tasks like reading, writing, and navigating challenging. Low vision rehabilitation focuses on practical solutions to improve day-to-day function. At Okanagan Vision Therapy, we offer aids like magnifiers, custom telescopes, prism expansion lenses, and tinted lenses to help with tasks. Additionally, we’ll suggest simple adjustments for your home to help you function at your best. Our personalized tools and visual training strategies can make a meaningful difference in maintaining independence and ease in daily activities.

In-Office Vision Therapy

This evidence-based approach is designed to retrain essential visual skills. Our Vision Therapy programs are fully customized to fit each patient’s unique needs, meaning every treatment plan varies. During a visual skills assessment, we go beyond basic vision checks to evaluate eye teaming skills, depth perception, focusing, tracking, and more. If vision therapy is suitable, we’ll create a tailored plan combining in-office exercises guided by a doctor with at-home activities to reinforce these skills.

Online Vision Therapy

NeuroVisual Trainer is Okanagan Vision Therapy’s online training portal for assigning both training activities (with video instruction) and interactive exercises to strengthen the visual system. Once enrolled in a Vision Therapy program, a login code will be sent that will allow access to your individualized treatment plan.
