Our Treatment Network – How Does It Work?

Our Treatment Network – How Does It Work?

Sometimes in life there are things that, though challenging, prove easier to pursue than leave be. Expanding our network of treatment centres has proven to be just one of these things.

Sometimes in life there are things that, though challenging, prove easier to pursue than leave be. Expanding our network of treatment centres has proven to be just one of these things. With the growing swell of support and enrolment in our online Vision Therapy program, we were beginning to notice more and more pockets across our expansive province crying out for functional visual care. With online training at a max, the decision was simple – we need to bring more direct care to areas in need of the services our team provides.

In order to do this, we were faced with a logistical question. How do we ensure the same standard of care and treatment is carried out at locations beyond our Kelowna headquarters? For us, the answer to this question lies in maintaining the initial functional vision evaluation and therapeutic lens prescribing with our team of Optometrists at Kelowna HQ, and ensuring we have highly-trained Vision Therapists – those in possession of solid institutional knowledge – on the ground at our training centres.

Kelowna Evaluation & Training Centre

Our Kelowna Evaluation & Training Centre has been outfitted with all of the tools required to provide both functional vision evaluation, along with in-office vision training. Given that at least 50% of one’s success in Vision Therapy is reliant upon wearing the appropriate optical correction for recovery or development, keeping this element of our programs in one location allows us to be both consistent and precise with therapeutic glasses prescribing. All of our training programs and protocols are also developed and curated at this flagship centre.

Satellite Training Centres:

Vernon Vision Training

Each centre has been outfitted with identical tools and treatment devices to Kelowna HQ, allowing us to adhere to the same stringent protocol and management strategies that we have honed over the years. In addition, all of our Vision Therapists have trained and worked at Kelowna HQ and communicate daily with our team to discuss modifications to management. Locations have also been strategically chosen to be adjacent to local Optometrists, should the rare instance of ocular emergency arise.

So, how does it work? Easy as 1,2,3!

Step 1: Functional Vision Evaluation at Kelowna HQ – therapeutic glasses prescribed (Described here).

Step 2: If indicated, enrolment in either in-office or online Vision Training via one of our training centres.

Step 3: Progress evaluations throughout at Kelowna HQ (every 5-10 training sessions, as indicated).

In a nutshell, that’s how we make it all work – on the ground however, there is constant communication, conversation, learning and research that continuously flows between all members of our team. Though challenging at times, the advancements in the field of Vision Therapy over the past decade make it unacceptable for us to stand back and leave so many across our province without an option for this service.

It may be 2020, but we are aiming to make this the year we ensure vision is seen as much more than just that!

Until next month,

Dr. Paul Rollett, OD, FCOVD
